SHKP’s APM mall reducing food waste to help the environment

18/07/11

Sun Hung Kai Properties’ (SHKP) APM mall will take part in a two-year food waste reduction programme by encouraging tenants to separate food waste at source and recycle.  SHKP is committed to environmental protection, sustainable development and green property management.

The Food Waste Reduction Campaign at APM is being organized by the Kwun Tong District Council, Environmental Protection Department, Greeners Action and SHKP.  The two-year campaign starts in July with food waste reduction measures and educational activities.  An event was held at the mall recently to announce the campaign.

Participating restaurants at APM will separate food waste for collection and processing at the mall’s composting facility and converted into fertilizer for podium garden of the mall and parks in the district.  There will also be regular seminars, talks and tours of the composting facility.  The mall is staging an exhibition until August 10, with tips on how to reduce food waste and recycling at home and in the catering industry.

Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Senior Property and Facility Manager Lam Kin-yau said: “SHKP promotes green management and has effective measures to reduce waste, save energy and improve indoor air quality.  We also have composting facilities in our malls and residential developments.  We are pleased to have APM taking part in the food waste reduction campaign, and I hope this will raise public awareness of the issue.”
