SHKP Love Nature Campaign enlists 200 staff and students to protect mangroves

25/05/12

Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) consolidates its green efforts under the SHKP G Power campaign to encourage employees and the public to appreciate nature.  SHKP recently arranged for nearly 200 staff members and primary students to clean up mangrove beaches at Shui Hau Wan in South Lantau as part of its Love Nature Campaign.  The participants included SHKP volunteers and their family members, students from seven primary schools and their parents and teachers.  They started in Tung Chung and travelled through the countryside to Shui Hau Village and Shui Hau Wan.

The muddy beaches of Shui Hau Wan provide habitats for creatures such as fiddler crabs and marine snails.  SHKP arranged a guided tour to give participants a better understanding of mangroves and the importance of environmental conservation through interactive games.  The students said they learned a lot and would take part in more eco activities.

The Love Nature programme spreads the green message to employees and the community through clean ups and educational programmes and has included three clean-up events so far; at Lung Kwu Tan, Sha Chau and Lung Kwu Chau in Tuen Mun and Shui Hau Wan in South Lantau.  In total the volunteers have collected nearly 3,500 kg of rubbish.
