Ma Wan Park's Nature Garden has attracted over 200,000 visitors since it opened in the middle of last year. The park was designed to serve the community, with an emphasis on interactive learning. It has different renewable sustainable energy systems that promote conservation and sustainable development. Ma Wan Park's efforts were recognized when it received the 2007/08 Caring Company designation from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service for its community involvement and concern about the environment.

Outdoor green learning

The park embraces the themes of nature, education, art and love, and is ideal for outdoor learning. The Nature Garden's renewable energy systems developed with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University utilize solar power, wind, ground heat, a waterfall and biomass to power some the park facilities and reduce pollution from conventional power generation. The systems also collect data for research and promote environmental awareness.

Hosting 50 charity groups and 2,500 people

Ma Wan Park has guided tours and activities with that to help people develop their own potential and interpersonal relationships. It has staged free activities for 50 schools, community groups and NGOs that attracted over 2,500 people. They include residents of Tin Shui Wai and Tung Chung, who have toured the park, seen the lush scenery and learned more about nature. The park is going to expand its offerings this summer so that more people can learn about nature.

SHKP honoured for sixth year running

Sun Hung Kai Properties cares for the environment and helps the less fortunate in the community. This commitment has earned widespread recognition with the company and 35 of its subsidiaries receiving the 2007/08 Caring Company designation. The company also received the five-year Plus distinction for its ongoing contributions.
