16/06/08

Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) has won a Prime Award for Eco-Business for the second consecutive year, in recognition of its green approach to development and respect for the environment. SHKP was the first developer to emphasize green construction and management, and it keeps improving with the latest energy-efficient technology and innovative designs.

Recognition

The awards are given out by Prime magazine. The judges include representatives of nine local environmental organizations, 12 chambers of commerce and eight universities. Companies are judged on their environmental policy, green planning and performance, environmental awareness and innovation. The judges commended SHKP for its commitment to environmental protection and implementation of its environmental responsibilities. The honour shows SHKP's credentials as a green developer.

Green policy

SHKP uses its leading position to encourage environmental protection, and it follows green principles in all aspects of property development. SHKP's staff is also aware of the importance of sustainable development and takes part in various green activities, while its property management companies help promote green awareness among residents and tenants.

High-tech green building

SHKP has developed various outstanding environmental projects, International Commerce Centre (ICC) is an example of green development. This will be the tallest building in Hong Kong and the third tallest in the world, and it incorporates over 100 environmental features. The project has won a provisional platinum HK-BEAM ranking (Building Environmental Assessment Method). It has an 'energy optimizer' air conditioning system that is 15% more efficient than usual and a high-tech 'smart' lift system 12% more efficient to reduce energy consumption. These two systems will save enough energy each year compared to an average office building to supply 6,500 families of four with power for a month.
