Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) recently won a third consecutive Prime Award for Eco-Business, showing its green commitment to Hong Kong. SHKP cares about the environment and has comprehensive green policies. It was the first developer in Hong Kong to incorporate environmental protection in its vertically-integrated system of property development and management, and it has a long commitment to raise green awareness through its extensive portfolio of residential and commercial developments. SHKP believes in building homes with heart and developing Ma Wan Park Noah’s Ark which is the first tourist attraction in Hong Kong to integrate environmental protection and education.

Green efforts honoured

The Prime awards are presented by Prime Communications and the Business Environment Council. The judges are 20 representatives of major green groups, chambers of commerce and academia, who evaluate candidates on green strategies, implementation and leadership. SHKP is the only developer to have won the honour for three straight years in recognition of its commitment to green development..

Ma Wan Park Nature Garden and Noah's Ark cultivate green awareness

Noah's Ark at Ma Wan Park is a unique new attraction built by SHKP, with a theme of love of life, family and the earth. It has a range of multimedia facilities, exhibitions and interactive games for visitors to encourage environmental awareness and conservation of natural resources. The Nature Garden provides outdoor interactive learning environment and showcasing renewable energy system to teach people about sustainable development.

Combining architecture and environmental protection

SHKP has a long-standing dedication to quality and follows green guildlines in all aspects of its business from planning and design to material sourcing, construction and landscaping. Its estate management subsidiaries Hong Yip Service Company and Kai Shing Management Services practice green management for energy efficiency, waste reduction, landscape beautification and more. Garden plots in some residential developments allow residents to enjoy farming and get closer to nature. Park Island on Ma Wan was named the most energy-efficient residential estate in Hong Kong in the Friends of the Earth's third Power Smart contest for saving nearly a million kWh of electricity over the past year.

International green standards

International Commerce Centre will be the tallest building in Hong Kong and third tallest in the world. Over a hundred green features have earned the building a provisional platinum rating under HK-BEAM (Hong Kong Building Environmental Assessment Method). The new Kowloon Commerce Centre was granted LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) gold pre-certification by the US Green Building Council for meeting international green standards with environmental features like energy-efficient curtain walls and 75% construction waste recycling.

Promoting green living

SHKP works closely with green groups and encourages concern for the environment with various initiatives involving its residential and commercial developments. Over 70 SHKP buildings took part in Earth Hour this year, with major developments like Sun Hung Kai Centre, IFC, Central Plaza and APM to show support for conservation.
