Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) recently issued its first Sustainability Report detailing its economic, environmental and social approaches, performance and challenges relating to sustainability.  The company follows the ideal of ‘Building Homes with Heart’ in its community investment, environmental programmes, employee care and community service.
 
SHKP disseminates timely information on its community service, environmental initiatives and employee development through channels such as annual and interim reports.  This first Sustainability Report adds further transparency and is based on the G3.1 guidelines from the Global Reporting Initiative.  It covers the company’s approach to sustainable development and performance in key aspects in Hong Kong during 2010.  The Report has been assessed and certified by the independent Business Environment Council.

SHKP has been a constituent stock of Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index since 2010 in recognition of record for sustainability.  It commissioned an independent consultant for the first time last year to review its performance in corporate governance and social and environmental impact through group discussions and interviews with employees, non-governmental organizations, customers and investors.  The study helped promote two-way communication to refine the company’s sustainability strategy.

Chairmen and Managing Directors Thomas and Raymond Kwok said that SHKP places great emphasis on stakeholder communications and transparency.  The company issued its first Sustainability Report this year to keep stakeholders and the public informed of corporate sustainability strategy and initiatives and demonstrate a long-term commitment to sustainable development in business and the community.  The company also pledges to continue working in accordance with its sustainability principles and create a better future with everyone.
