14/03/07

Sun Hung Kai Properties believes in environmental protection and cares about maintaining indoor air quality in its buildings. The company's Sun Hung Kai Centre head office got an Excellent Indoor Air Quality Certificate, from the Environmental Protection Department; the highest rating of the certification scheme. The Environmental Protection Department assessed buildings on 12 criteria, including temperature and concentrations of particulates, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Getting the best rating requires optimal reading in all areas, and only five buildings in Hong Kong got Excellent certificates. Sun Hung Kai Centre was the oldest of the five.

SHK Real Estate Management Company General Manager Choi Ming Chi was pleased with the recognition of indoor air quality. The developer strives to build quality developments and has long been committed to environmental protection. The excellent air quality rating shows its commitment to the environment.

Mr Choi said that major steps were taken last year to improve the indoor air quality at Sun Hung Kai Centre, including an enhancement of the central ventilation and air filter, changes to air-conditioning operational procedures and improving the exhaust system to ensure sufficient fresh air intake. All these were part of an effort to maintain good air quality in the building. Other measures to ensure green workplace include energy-saving lighting, avoiding harmful chemicals and monitoring of leakage of refrigerants from the air-conditioning room to avoid damaging the ozone layer.
