Over 200 Developments from SHKP to Take Part In the 10th Earth Hour In Town

26/03/18

Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) takes environmental considerations into account when developing properties and in its daily operations, and supports green initiatives in the community to conserve energy as part of its continuous promotion of healthy and sustainable living.  The company recently joined in the worldwide Earth Hour for a tenth straight year by bringing together more than 200 residential estates, shopping malls, and commercial and industrial buildings in the territory to switch off lights for an hour.

The WWF Earth Hour encourages the general public to contribute to a sustainable environment by saving energy.   SHKP showed its commitment to sustainable development by mobilizing over 200 commercial and industrial buildings, shopping malls and residential estates managed by its subsidiaries, including Hong Yip Service Co. Ltd. and Kai Shing Management Services Limited, to switch off lights for an hour on the night of 24 March.   Developments taking part included Kowloon Commerce Centre (KCC), which received the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification in Hong Kong, and the city’s tallest building International Commerce Centre (ICC), which implements green management.  ICC was awarded the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s “BEAM Plus Existing Buildings V2.0” Platinum Certificate and won top Hanson Grand Award in the office category in the first Energy Saving Championship organized by the Environment Bureau and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.  Sun Hung Kai Centre, MOKO, Metroplaza, and PARK YOHO, which has conservation incorporated in its development, were also among the principal SHKP developments that rallied behind the Earth Hour cause.

In keeping with its belief in Building Homes with Heart to serve the community, SHKP develops premium properties and engages in multiple initiatives to promote sustainable living.   Its Love Nature Campaign that began in 2011 combines elements of learning with appreciation and outdoor exploration.  It aims to encourage the younger generation to care for nature and deepen kindergarten and primary school students’ understanding of the environment through activities such as eco-tours and beach clean-ups.  The campaign has organized 30 clean-ups collecting over 30,000 kg of waste and recyclables along with conducting 50 school visits and eco-tours encouraging children to understand and care about nature while learning about green concepts and ways to live an Earth friendly life.
