SHKP issues 2016/17 Sustainability Report detailing its latest achievements

Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) published its 2016/17 Sustainability Report today, capturing its efforts and achievements towards sustainable development for the fiscal year ending 30 June 2017.  SHKP believes in Building Homes with Heart and continues advancing its sustainability agenda to create long-term value for customers, employees, business partners, shareholders, investors and the community.

Highlights of SHKP’s sustainability achievements include:

Enhanced Reporting Practice and Risk Monitoring
  • Expanded stakeholder engagement by involving industry peers
  • Energy Optimization Committee enlarged to 27 members with engineering and management specialists to monitor building electricity consumption
Effective Environmental Operations
  • Won 16 accolades including grand awards in the shopping mall, office building and residential building categories in the Hong Kong government’s first Energy Saving Championship awards  
  • Cut electricity use in investment property portfolio by more than 14% in the past six years
  • Restored five hectares of once-barren land at PARK YOHO in Sha Po to a thriving wetland named Fairyland, with over 180 species including one listed as ‘near threatened’ 
Premium Product and Service Quality with Customer Focus
  • Favoured by homebuyers, tenants and hotel guests for premium products and service under a trusted brand
  • International Commerce Centre recognized as one of the 125 most important structures in the past 125 years by US Architectural Record magazine
  • Uses advanced digital technology to assist customers with parking space navigation, restaurant reservations and more
People-oriented Human Resources
  • Adopted flexible work hours for head office staff and five-day work week to reinforce work-life balance
  • Promotes workplace diversity and inclusiveness so capable people with skill and passion can reach their potential
Responsible Corporate Citizen
  • Introduced a free new multimedia online reading platform linepaper to promote reading among the young through popular social media channels
  • Provided support for about 160 children in family crises through the SHKP Rainbow with KIDS programme
  • Ran 15th annual Modern Apprenticeship Programme that has helped some 300 young people to date
  • Donated a site in Yuen Long for Hong Kong’s first cross-generation integrated social service facility
SHKP Sustainability Steering Committee said: “Delivering long-term value for our stakeholders and communities has always been our top priority, and we assure that we would collaborate with them to advance Hong Kong’s sustainability agenda.”

SHKP is proud to be an early adopter of the Core option of the newest Global Reporting Initiative Sustainability Reporting Standards and the revised Environmental, Social and Governance Reporting Guide set out in Appendix 27 of the Stock Exchange listing rules.  The report also refers to the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact and has been independently verified by the British Standards Institution.
