Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) is committed to corporate social responsibility, including sustainable development.  The company recently released its 2011/12 Sustainability Report to give stakeholders and the public an in-depth understanding of its approach to sustainable development and commitment to long-term business and community growth.

SHKP has issued standalone sustainability reports covering its annual performance since 2011, based on the G3.1 guidelines from the Global Reporting Initiative.  The new report covers SHKP’s approach to sustainable development and performance in Hong Kong during 2011/12, including economic, business, social, health and safety and environmental aspects.  It adds transparency by covering SHKP’s hotel portfolio for the first time and provides more content about supply chain performance.  The report was assessed and certified by the independent Business Environment Council as fulfilling the criteria for GRI Application Level B, with a plus endorsement.

SHKP has earned widespread recognition for its sustainability efforts and has been a constituent of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index since 2010.  It values two-way communication with stakeholders and commissions an independent consultant for an annual review of its performance in corporate governance and social and environmental impact through group discussions and interviews with stakeholders including employees, non-governmental organizations, suppliers, customers and investors.  The reviews help to refine SHKP’s sustainability strategy.
